Overview

Every video segment on the timeline has its own speed and volume, so you can speed up a slow section or turn down the original audio under music or a voiceover.

Change Playback Speed

1

Select the segment

In the editor, click the video segment on the timeline. Its panel opens on the right on the Settings tab.
2

Choose a speed

Open Playback Speed and choose a speed. 1x (Normal) is the original speed.
3

Reset if needed

Click Reset next to Playback Speed to go back to normal speed.
Changing the speed changes how long the segment is on the timeline. Check that captions, b-rolls, and text still line up afterwards.

Change Volume Or Mute A Segment

  1. Select the segment on the timeline.
  2. On the Settings tab, drag the Volume slider. 100% is the original level.
  3. Click Mute to silence the segment completely.

Fade Audio In Or Out

Select an audio layer on the timeline, such as music, a sound effect, or a voiceover. Then adjust:
  • Volume for the layer’s level
  • Fade In to ease the sound in at the start
  • Fade Out to ease it out at the end

Mute The Whole Preview

The Mute button in the timeline toolbar, or ⌥M (Alt+M on Windows), mutes playback in the editor. It doesn’t change your exported clip.
