# Transcript And Subtitles Views

> Switch between the Transcript view for editing by text and the Subtitles view for checking each caption line and its timing.

> **For AI agents:** a documentation index is at [/llms.txt](/llms.txt). Every page is also available as markdown, just append `.md` to the URL.

## Overview

The panel on the left of the editor has two views. Switch between them with the **Transcript** and **Subtitles** tabs at the top.

| View | Best for |
| - | - |
| **Transcript** | Editing the clip by text: selecting words to cut, correct, highlight, or add emojis, and adding segments. |
| **Subtitles** | Reviewing captions line by line, with the start and end time of each line. |

## Transcript View

The transcript shows everything said in the clip as running text.

* Select words to open the editing actions, such as **Set as start**, **Set as end**, **Correct word**, **Highlight**, **Add emoji**, and **Cut**. See [Edit Clips](/help-center/edit-clips).
* Click **Add segment** above or below the transcript to bring in more of the source video. See [How to extend and add more content to AI-generated clips](/help-center/how-to-extend-and-add-more-content-to-ai-generated-clips).
* Use **Find** to search the transcript or fix a word everywhere. See [Find And Replace Across The Transcript](/help-center/find-and-replace-across-the-transcript).

## Subtitles View

The Subtitles view lists each caption line on its own with its timing in seconds, for example `0.059 - 2.563`. Use it to:

* check how your captions are split into lines,
* spot lines that are too long or too short, and
* find a specific moment quickly.

To change exactly when a caption appears or disappears, use the timing sidebar. See [How to set caption timing with the timing sidebar](/help-center/how-to-set-caption-timing-with-the-timing-sidebar).

<Tip>
To control how many words show on screen at once, change **Max words** in the caption style editor. See [Advanced Caption Styling](/help-center/advanced-caption-styling).
