## Overview

Every video segment on the timeline has its own speed and volume, so you can speed up a slow section or turn down the original audio under music or a voiceover.

</Note>

## Change Volume Or Mute A Segment

1. Select the segment on the timeline.
2. On the **Settings** tab, drag the **Volume** slider. **100%** is the original level.
3. Click **Mute** to silence the segment completely.

## Fade Audio In Or Out

Select an audio layer on the timeline, such as music, a sound effect, or a voiceover. Then adjust:

* **Volume** for the layer's level
* **Fade In** to ease the sound in at the start
* **Fade Out** to ease it out at the end

## Mute The Whole Preview

The **Mute** button in the timeline toolbar, or **⌥M** (Alt+M on Windows), mutes playback in the editor. It doesn't change your exported clip.
