## Overview

Face tracking keeps the speaker centered as they move. See [Face Tracking](/help-center/face-tracking) for how to turn it on. If the camera feels too jumpy or too slow to follow, you can fine-tune how it tracks.

## Step-By-Step Workflow

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your clip in the editor">
    Click **Edit** under the clip.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make sure face tracking is on">
    Click **AI Tools** in the right sidebar and check that **Face tracking** is switched on.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Fine-tune tracking">
    Under **Face tracking**, open **Fine-tune tracking**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Adjust the settings">
    Change **Follow speed** and **Dead zone** (explained below), then play the clip to check the result.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reset if needed">
    Click **Reset** to go back to the default tracking settings.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## The Settings

| Setting | What it does | When to change it |
| - | - | - |
| **Follow speed** | How quickly the frame moves to follow the face. Lower is smoother. Higher snaps to the face faster. | Lower it if the frame looks shaky. Raise it if the speaker moves quickly and leaves the frame. |
| **Dead zone** | How far the face can move before the camera reacts. | Raise it to stop small head movements from moving the frame. Lower it to keep the face more tightly centered. |

## Messages You Might See

* **Face tracking is not available for this video.** Reap couldn't detect a face it can track. Use a [clip layout](/help-center/how-can-i-change-the-clip-layout) or [adjust the framing manually](/help-center/manually-adjust-the-framing-to-make-it-more-precise) instead.
* **We couldn't find a face in most of this segment, so face tracking isn't available here.** Tracking works per segment. Other segments may still track.
* **Move this clip and turn off face tracking?** Moving or resizing the video on the canvas turns face tracking off for that segment. Choose **Keep face tracking** to cancel, or **Move it** to position it yourself.
* **Turning this on puts the clip back to its original size and position.** Switching face tracking back on undoes manual moves and resizes.
